This web site is the culminating activity of a Master of Science in Nursing Project offering informational and interactive Internet-based support. The web site designer, administrator and message board moderator is a registered nurse.

This nursing web site addresses the issues of individuals struggling with mycoplasma infection. It provides reliable information and opportunities for support . It can be used as an avenue to help individuals cope with or better manage their chronic mycoplasma infection. The intent is to reach individuals who may not be able, or do not have the desire to attend face-to-face support sessions.

This web site is personally funded by Sharon Briggs. Access to the web site is free and there is no advertising of goods or services. This site does not host or receive funding from advertising or from the display of commercial content. The banners on this page are for informational purposes only to help identify this web sites affiliated agencies and are not intended to advertise any goods or services.

All of the medical information presented on the pages in the Mycoplasma Support web site were authored by Sharon Briggs, RN, MSN and reviewed for accuracy by Garth Nicolson, Ph. D.

Sharon Briggs graduated from Highland School of Nursing, Oakland California (1965) and has maintained a license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in California since 1965. Sharon also received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from California State University, Chico, California (1978) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from California State University, Chico, California (2005). As a registered nurse for forty years, Sharon has spent twenty of those years educating nursing students at Lassen Community College in Susanville, California, Shasta College in Redding, California, Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, California and Ohlone College in Fremont, California. Sharon has four years experience as a research assistant at the Institute for Molecular Medicine in Huntington Beach, California where she specialized in mycoplasma infections seen in those with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Sharon also spent ten years as founder and support group leader for Shasta CFIDS, a support group for those with chronic illnesses serving nine northern counties of California. Sharon also designed and maintaines an informational web site affiliated with Shasta CFIDS. Sharon was also a co-administrator of a message board for those with mycoplasma for a year where she contributed reliable medical and nursing information to the registered members.

Garth Nicolson has a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego (1970); a Bachelor of Science (B. S.) in Chemistry from the University of California Los Angeles (1965) Garth founded the Institute for Molecular Medicine in 1996. Dr. Nicolson is the President, Chief Scientific Officer and a Research Professor at the Institute for Molecular Medicine. He has over 550 scientific and medical publications, several of which are citation classics. He holds 9 U.S. patents. Formerly he was the David Bruton Jr. Chair in Cancer Research, Professor and Chairman, Dept. of Tumor Biology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and he has held various other professorships including Professor of Internal Medicine and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and Professor of Comparative Pathology at Texas A & M University. He serves as Editor of two journals ( Clinical & Experimental Metastasis and Journal of Cellular Biochemistry ) and as an Associate Editor of 12 other medical/scientific journals. Dr. Nicolson has held several memberships of advisory and review committees and is currently a member of national and international committees in cancer research and other scientific programs. Besides many other awards, he was honored with the Stephen Paget Award of the Metastasis Research Society, the Outstanding Investigator Award of the National Cancer Institute and the Albert Schweitzer Award in 1998. He is member of various scientific societies and held offices in the American Association for Cancer Research and Metastasis Research Society. Under his supervision 36 postdoctoral fellowships and 17 Ph.D. theses were performed. Dr. Nicolson's interests are in the biochemistry and molecular genetics of cancer progression with particular interests in the areas of metastasis or spread of cancer, paracrine growth factors and invasion enzymes. He is a Colonel (Honorary) of the U. S. Army Special Forces and a U. S. Navy SEAL (Honorary) for his work on Armed Forces and veterans' illnesses. He is also engaged in research on the role of chronic infections in a variety of chronic illnesses, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gulf War Illness and various autoimmune diseases.
