WEB SITE GOALS

Provide information to large populations of individuals with chronic mycoplasma infection who have also been diagnosed with a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Gulf War Syndrome, Lyme Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Assist individuals to recognize and improve their own chronic illness state to enable them to make good health care choices and participate actively in their self care.

Provide reliable information through the posting of peer-reviewed medical and nursing research and quality mycoplasma information.

Assist the individual to develop knowledge about mycoplasma or particular skills needed to accomplish self-care.

Offer potential psychosocial benefits in the form of social support and interaction with others with the same illness through an interactive message board format.

CONTENTS

This web site contains reliable scientific information about mycoplasma including its pathogenesis, reliable testing methods, treatment and supportive self-care guidelines. A registered nurse creates the information presented.

Accessing the message board component of this web site will help individuals overcome barriers to social support systems by offering an environment that supports those who are isolated and whose quality of life has diminished because of their chronic illness. This web site has potential benefits for individuals who may not be able, or do not have the desire to attend traditional face-to-face support sessions. A registered nurse augments information and support for message board members.

INTENT

This web site was the culmination project of a Master in Nursing degree that focused on how a nursing web site could address the issues of individuals struggling with mycoplasma infection and provide reliable information and opportunities for support.
